4th of July

July 4th, 2008 · No comments

Today is the 4th of July but there is no celebration going on here.  I don’t really have anything to celebrate so I decided not to do fireworks or BBQs this year.

We did however, work very hard.  We packed up alot of boxes of toys and weeded out even more.  Some to the dumpster, some to the tag sale box and the rest packed neatly in cardboard boxes.  Then we went to the grocery store and the movies.  Tomorrow we are hitting the amusement park.   Having season passes to the amusement park down the street does have it advantages.  Packing is boring and hard but the payoff will be well worth it.

Happy Independence Day from our family to yours! !

Hancock - Movie Review

July 4th, 2008 · No comments

I think any  movie with Will Smith is a movie worth watching.  The only one that I thought was just OK was Hitch but even that had funny moments.  Today for our 4th of July celebration I took the kids to see a movie.  It was really nice spending time with just the two of them.  No friends No other kids.  We all voted to see Hancock instead of Wallie.  We figured we would have a chance to see Wallie sometime soon and it would be super crowded today.   Sure enough the line at the theatre was long but 90% of them where going in to see Wallie.

Hancock ended out being a great movie.  One big note if you don’t want your 8 year old hearing the a-word or the b-word you might say NO to this movie.  It does have some violence but nothing extremely bad.  Will Smith plays John Hancock in this superhero movie with a new twist.  Hancock is a drunk and pretty much hated by the people of L.A.  Acting homeless and being mean he reluctantly fights crime with a major attitude.  Until he saves Ray Embrey (Jason Batemen)  from a speeding train.  Ray being a good hearted PR guy sees the good in Hancock and wants to change his image.  The movie unfolds from there with a few twists they did not show on the trailers.  I’m not going to spoil it for you.  The first part of the movie is extremely funny and the major plot turner in the middle will shock you.  The movie turns pretty dark after that and tragedy ensues.  Hancock is still a great movie to see.  Jason Bateman and Charlie Theron are very likeable co stars with Will Smith.

Baby

June 29th, 2008 · 2 Shouted Out

No matter how old they get they will always be your baby.   My son feel off his skateboard the other day trying tricks.  He scrapped up his knee, shoulder, and elbow pretty good.  About a half hour after he started complaining of back pain.  I gave him some children’s mortin and an ice pack for his back.  He fell asleep waiting for the pain to go away.  He ended out taking a pretty good nap in the middle of the day.  Made me feel good that he still needs his mama and reminded me that he is still my baby, blankie and all.

I forgot

June 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

How much I liked music.  I have a confession…. I listen to my 13 year old daughters music and enjoy it.  I found myself rewinding Miley Cyrus the other day and Miranda wasn’t even home.  Is that wrong.  That I’m on the wrong side of 35 and I like that kind of music.

My taste in music is very vast.  I feel anyhow.  On my playlist today…. Kelly Pickler, Duffy, Amy Winehouse,  and Tim McGraw.  I wish there was a guitar hero just for me with My Music.

For my son’s birthday I think I am going to get him rockband.  Why because I want to sing along.  LOL.  Isn’t that what Kids birthdays are for.  So parents can buy them the toys they really want to play with.

Makeover Contest

June 27th, 2008 · No comments

Life is hard, isn’t it?  A roller coaster of good times and bad.  I always use to make fun of soap operas because if a couple was happy one week on a soap you knew that the next week one of them would probably die or be black mailed.  Life is not far from a soap opera.  Meaning, if you are going through some bad times eventually the light will shine though and maybe your coaster will start heading up the hill.  It also means nothing stays happy your whole life.  From relationships to your livelihood chances are things won’t always be rosy.

My life has been a roller coaster for most of my adulthood.  I’m sure as a child it probably was to I just don’t remember.  As a women when you have things on your mind you tend to worry about them.  Worry makes frowns and wrinkles.  Is it normal to worry about wrinkles and then frown and make more wrinkles.  I would love to get an ArtFill makeover.  As I approach forty my skin is far from perfect.  I’m nervous if I don’t do something now by the time I am 41 I will have lost all my "youthfulness".  In the last few years I’ve aged so quickly that it is scary.

You can enter the ArtFill contest and have a chance to win a $10,000 Makeover contest by submitting a story.

Friday Feast

Appetizer

What is the weather like today where you live?  A bit rainy but not bad.  It was a perfect day to work with the windows open and get some fresh air in the place.

Soup

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how career-minded are you?  I guess that depends on who you ask.  I like doing the best job I can at work.  I like working.  I like my job and excelling at what I do.

Salad

What type of window coverings do you have in your home? Blinds, curtains, shutters, etc.?  Blinds.  I would like to soften the place up with curtains.  However, it doesn’t matter much since WE ARE MOVING.

Main Course

Name something that instantly cheers you up.  My children.  My friends.  A good meal.  A funny movie or TV show.  Today, I helped out a friend and had her kids over.  One of them is the cutest little thing and said the funniest little remarks.  It certainly made my day go better having a small one around.

Dessert

How many times do you hit the snooze button on a typical morning?  I haven’t set my alarm all week and I’ve been up on time before 6 every day.  Kind of proud of myself.  I wake up much easier in the summer than I do winter.  Ask me that in January and I’ll tell you a two digit number.

Google 411

Found this little video and thought I would share with my friends. I use 411 substantially less than I have in previous years but still do on occasion out of laziness. Here is another free service from Google.

Maggie on Being a Mother

June 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

  • Why is it no matter how fast asleep you, how tired you are or what time of night it is - you can identify the sound of throw up hitting your floor.
  • Why is it that no matter how close a child’s room is to the bathroom they can’t make it in there to get sick.
  • Why is it they most find you first then head to the toilet when it’s bubbling up?

I hate the smell of barf it makes me want to barf.  Then I have 2 messes to clean up
